Experience 2: Giving & Taking

We begin by bringing honour to Siqonomeq [Zee-Gone-Oh-Meg] (Alewife fish) in the PLK Card below. PLK stands for Peskotomuhkatikuk Lakutuwok Koluwot, or Passamaquoddy Valued Relation. We exhibit Siqonomeq’s image here, and state some of their many ‘powers’ so we can begin to build a relationship with this animal as a relative, treating the Alewife as a being with whom we have real relationship.

Siqonomeq is shown here with its deep comrade (another valued relation), Supeqi-pskihq (Eelgrass). Supeqi-pskihq gives forage cover to Siqonomeq and Siqonomeq brings vital nutrients from the deep ocean (supeqahkomiq) to the river bed.

Be alert to the voice of Siqonomeq in Experience 2, and attempt to see the world through their eyes, seeing new solution possibilities through the gift of their powers.

When you complete this experience, the Siqonomeq PLK will be made available to you via email as a high-resolution download, along with a few other special items. We think of this as a gift basket given to you for your engagement in each experience, and with thanks for learning about the Bay and the Peskotomuhkati people.
