Experience 2: Giving & Taking

Water Activity

An Invitation To Water.

Task 1

As you move through your day, stay mindful of where the water is around you. Is it to the left, or the right? Is it behind those trees, or just on the other side of this bend? What body of water is it?

Recall this water as being near you as a living being, and imagine yourself feeling its nearness and far-ness as you move through space.

Task 2

Later in your day, when you are en route somewhere but with time to spare, let your newfound awareness of water take the wheel. Follow the water until you find an access point. This could be a boat landing, a park, or a dirt road in the right direction. Pay attention to your senses and feelings as you draw nearer your access point. Anticipate an encounter with a ‘someone’.

As you arrive, find a comfortable spot to sit (or enjoy a slow stroll with the water in sight). Remember these waters are lifeways for fish and people.

Use all 5 senses while sitting with water. Smell the life around the water, see the relatives that are part of it, hear the sounds of life that are drawn to it, feel the cool air on your face, slowly and mindfully drink from your water bottle.

Water is a living being. imagine where water in front of you has been – both in space, but also in time – who else has spoken to the water you visit today? Water carries memory, are there any messages for you that water is carrying?

Imagine using this water to live your daily life. These waterways are foodways, culture ways, family ways. Plan when you will return to the water soon… you know, to catch up.
